Buying a PC

Where are you?

Fort McMurray, Alberta. PCs ship anywhere in Canada, and Eric delivers by hand in Fort McMurray.

Do you ship outside Canada?

Not as a rule. If you're outside Canada, ask first, and Eric will tell you if it can be done.

Can I pick up the PC?

In Fort McMurray, Eric delivers it to you by hand. There's no pick-up address.

Can I choose my own parts?

Yes. Send a PCPartPicker link, or just say your budget and your games and Eric picks. See Custom builds.

What does a custom build cost?

The parts, plus $250 flat for the build. You get the full price before anything is ordered. Your quote is usually good for 48 hours, but part prices can change even before then: they're confirmed when Eric orders the parts, right after your deposit. If one goes up, he asks you first, and you can cancel for your full deposit back. Tuning and overclocking are optional extras, at the tuning prices.

Does it come with Windows?

Yes, with drivers and updates installed. PCs in stock include an official Windows key in their price. For a custom build, the official key is charged at the official price, or give Eric your own key: then any problem with that key is yours to sort out.

How is every PC tested?

For at least 2 days before it goes out: games, benchmarks and stress tests.

Can you install my programs and games?

Yes, as an extra for $150 on a PC you buy. Pick it on the quote form and list the programs and games you want, and it arrives ready to play. Only programs and games you own or that are free.

Do I have to install anything myself?

Only if it's shipped: the graphics card comes in its own box so it can't crack on the way, with a step-by-step guide, and Eric can walk you through it. Install and test it within the 48 hours. In Fort McMurray, it arrives ready to plug in.

Paying

How do I pay?

Interac e-Transfer, or cash on local delivery in Fort McMurray. No credit cards and no PayPal.

The PC costs more than my e-Transfer limit.

Ask your bank to raise your limit, or pay over a few days.

When does my PC ship?

As soon as your payment is deposited. Shipping is insured, with a signature needed on delivery.

How much is shipping?

It depends on where you are. Shipping is extra: Eric quotes the insured cost to your city before you pay. Hand delivery in Fort McMurray is free.

Can I reserve a PC that's for sale?

Yes. A deposit of 15% of the price ($100 minimum on lower-priced PCs) holds it for 14 days, and $100 of it is non-refundable. Details.

Is there a deposit on custom builds?

Yes, 25%, and then Eric orders the parts. Until he opens them, you can cancel and get it back, minus the store's restocking fee (if any), the return shipping, and a $50 fee for his time. Stores often take sealed parts back for free, so usually it's just the $50. If a price goes up before he orders and you say no, you get the full deposit back, with no fees. When all the parts arrive, he asks you to confirm within 24 hours. Once you say go ahead and the parts are opened, the deposit is non-refundable. The rest is due within 7 days of your PC being ready: after that, the PC is sold to someone else, Eric's costs come out of the deposit, and the rest is refunded. Details.

Returns and warranty

Can I return a PC?

If something is really wrong, tell Eric within 48 hours of receiving it, with photos, and keep the box. Eric chooses the fix: repair, replace the part, or refund. If he confirms the fault, he pays the shipping to get the PC back. Changing your mind isn't a reason to return it. Full return rules.

What are the numbered stickers?

Tamper seals. They prove nobody opened the PC after it was tested. In Fort McMurray the case itself is sealed: don't open it without talking to Eric first. On shipped PCs the parts inside and the graphics card box are sealed, so you can still open the case to install the card. The seal numbers and every part's serial number are on your bill. A seal broken without Eric's OK means no return. Details.

What happens after 48 hours?

Each part keeps what's left of its manufacturer's warranty (counted from the day Eric bought it, where the maker allows it), and Eric's help with a claim is free. The buyer pays any shipping. If nothing turns out to be wrong, Eric's time is $50 per hour. Details.

Is overclocking covered?

No. Overclocking comes with no warranty whatsoever.

Services

Where do you do services?

Fort McMurray only. Eric picks up and drops off in person (3D prints are the one exception: they can also ship anywhere in Canada).

Can I mail in my PC or console?

No. Nothing is mailed in.

Do I know the price first?

Yes. Every job is priced before work starts.

Do I need to back up my files?

Yes, before you hand over your device, or pick the file-backup option. Eric isn't responsible for lost data.

Do you 3D print?

Yes. Send Eric an STL, 3MF or OBJ file (or a link to the model), or describe the part and he designs it. Machine time starts at $5 an hour with the material included (more colours cost a little more per hour), design work $40 an hour, quoted before he prints. Minimum $20 per print job. Pick-up in Fort McMurray, or shipping anywhere in Canada. About 3D printing.

Is upgrade advice free?

Yes. Advice and quotes for upgrades are free, for PC parts and for the rest of your setup. Get free advice.

Do you repair boards or find faults?

No board repairs: Eric doesn't solder, or replace chips and other components, on a motherboard, graphics card or console board. He can check a PC that crashes or acts up (parts, Windows, drivers), priced separately. A console that won't turn on gets the power supply check (see Console refresh). If the fault is on a board, he tells you: that's beyond what he does, and the check is still charged (finding it is the work).

Do you sell Windows keys?

Not on their own. A Windows install on your own PC reuses the licence it already has. PCs from Eric come with an official key (see above).

Can you teach me to build my own PC?

Yes. Build your PC with Eric, side by side, at your place.
