What this website collects, why, who else handles it, and how long Eric keeps it.
Last updated October 22, 2026.
HandBuiltPCs.ca is run by one person, Eric, in Fort McMurray, Alberta. He is the one who reads your request and keeps your information.
The short version. Eric only collects what he needs to answer you and do the job: what you type in the request form, what you email him, and your bill when you buy. No tracking or advertising cookies. Card and bank details are never asked for. Your information is never sold and never shared for advertising. A request that doesn't become a sale is deleted 2 years after the last activity. Bills are kept for 6 years, as the tax rules require.
1. What this website collects
- There are no visitor accounts. You never sign up or log in.
- The request form: your name, email, phone (optional), city, what you want, and your notes. For a clean-out or refresh, the serial number if you give it; for a 3D print, the model file or link you send with it. Both are kept with your request and deleted with it.
- Emails you send to a HandBuiltPCs.ca address.
- No tracking or advertising cookies. The site's own server counts page views itself: which pages, how many, the website a visitor came from (its name only, like facebook.com), and the rough area visitors are in (from Cloudflare's location hints). Never an address or who visited.
- The spam check on the form (Cloudflare Turnstile) looks at your browser to tell people from bots. It may use what it needs for that.
- The site's own server log shows which pages were asked for, not who asked. Your internet address reaches the server only for the flood limit on the request form and the spam check. It isn't written to any log or file, and it's forgotten within an hour.
2. When you buy or book a job
- Your bill: name, email, phone if you gave it, city or shipping address, the parts and their serial numbers, payments, delivery and tracking.
- Proof photos: serial stickers, seals, and the handover photo.
- The emails about the sale or job.
- Payments are Interac e-Transfer or cash. Card or bank details are never asked for and never stored.
3. Why
- To answer you.
- To do the sale or the job, and deliver.
- To help with a warranty claim later.
- To keep the tax records the law requires.
4. Other services involved
A few services help run this site. Here is each one, and what it sees.
- Cloudflare runs the site's connection, the spam check and the email forwarding, and tells the server roughly where a visitor is (city and province). It sees visitors' internet addresses and browser information, and the emails passing through.
- Resend sends the site's emails. It sees the address they go to and the message.
- Google Gmail is Eric's email inbox. The emails you exchange with him are kept there.
- A shipping carrier, when a PC ships: your name, address and phone.
- Eric's phone gets a short notification of each new request. It's encrypted, so the notification service can't read it.
Some of these services are in the United States, so your information can be stored or handled there. It is never sold, and never shared for advertising.
5. Where it's kept
- On Eric's own computer at home in Alberta, reached only over a secure (HTTPS) connection.
- The admin side is locked behind a login.
- Every night, an encrypted backup goes to a separate drive at home. Backups are kept for 30 days.
6. How long
- Requests with no sale: deleted 2 years after the last activity.
- Bills, serial numbers and proof photos: 6 years.
- Backups: 30 days.
7. Your choices and rights
- You can ask what Eric holds about you, ask him to fix it, or ask him to delete it. The only exception is what the tax rules make him keep.
- He answers within 30 days.
- To ask, use the email button:
- If you're not happy with the answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta. This site follows Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act.
8. Age
- You must be 18 or older to buy or book a job.
- Younger? A parent or guardian can make the request and pay.
9. Changes
- Any change to this page is posted here, with the new date at the top.
