Graphics card refresh

Your graphics card taken apart, cleaned, and given new thermal paste and pads, so it runs cooler and quieter and helps stop throttling.

What's included

  • Card carefully taken apart
  • Old paste and pads removed
  • New paste, or a PTM7950 pad, on the graphics chip
  • New thermal pads on the memory and power parts
  • Fans and heatsink cleaned
  • Stress-tested, with temperatures before and after

Good for

  • High temperatures or a high hot-spot temperature
  • Fans that ramp up loud
  • Performance dropping as the card heats up
  • Older cards that were never repasted

Opening a graphics card can affect its manufacturer warranty on some brands. Eric tells you before he starts.

Thermal options

The material between the chip and the cooler decides how cool it runs and for how long. Eric can use:

Quality thermal paste

Included

A fresh, good-quality paste. The right choice for most PCs and consoles.

PTM7950 phase-change pad

Eric's pick, extra cost

A pad that melts into place the first time it heats up. It doesn't dry out or pump out, so it keeps working for years. Eric runs it on almost all of his own CPUs and graphics cards.

Usually adds about $50 to the job. Bigger chips cost more, so it's priced case by case.

Liquid metal

Only where it's safe

The best heat transfer, but it conducts electricity and can't touch some metals. Eric tells you if your device can take it. Quoted per job.
